Health Canada’s Youth Leadership Team on Tobacco and Vaping

(Formerly the National Youth Leadership Team (NYLT)

Health Canada’s Youth Leadership Team on Tobacco and Vaping is a group of youth from across the country who collaborate regularly to improve health outcomes related to substance usage amongst Canadian youth. The aim of the team is to provide evidence-based information to young Canadians in order for them to make informed decisions and actions related to tobacco, cannabis and vaping usage.

Mowahib Hassan Doualeh

Mowahib Hassan Doualeh, She/Her, Montréal QC

Mowahib is a second-year Honours student in Political Science at Concordia University. She loves to take part in conferences surrounding the empowerment of women of colour, leadership and youth policy work. Notably, she was a member of the youth panel during the YWCA Conference on women leadership in early 2020. Her choice of academic stream stems from her passion for human rights work and social justice. As a result, she also enrolled in a human rights minor to consolidate her passion with her studies. Mowahib loves getting involved in her community as well as with youths and allies across Canada. She joined Health Canada’s Youth Leadership Team on Tobacco and Vaping because she hopes to leave a mark in trying to make a more inclusive and diverse representation of the Canadians society.She expects to enhance policies and their application regarding substance usage with the help of her peers and Health Canada.
Ethan Turnbull

Ethan Turnbull, He/Him, Kingston NB

Ethan is a licensed REALTOR® with RE/MAX Professionals Saint John, inc. He has an immense interest in architecture and homes. Ethan has also been volunteering in his community for well over a decade. This includes volunteering at local priority neighbourhood schools, as well as being a volunteer firefighter for over three years. Ethan is also a Duke of Edinburgh award recipient, having been awarded the Bronze standing. The reason that Ethan joined the team is that along with his love of architecture and homes, he is also very interested in politics and public policy. Because of this, he felt this project would be the perfect opportunity to help and make a difference.
Leejoo Hwang

Leejoo Hwang, He/Him, Surrey BC

Leejoo Hwang is a fourth-year student at Simon Fraser University pursuing a certificate in Sustainable Community Development and a BBA in Sustainable Business. With a strong commitment to the triple bottom line, ecological, social, and economical sustainability, he believes in solving world issues through entrepreneurship and business. Leejoo co-founded MeaningfulWork, a web application that integrates social impact into the fabric of corporate work by matching employee volunteers to non-profits. Leejoo is a Watson and Ford Scholar and also sits as a youth advisor for Health Canada and the RCMP.
Neeharika Boni Bangari

Neeharika Boni Bangari, She/Her, Ottawa ON

Neeharika Boni Bangari is a first-year Biomedical Science student at the University of Ottawa. She has a wide variety of interests, from sports such as karate, skiing, and volleyball, to playing piano. Along with being a certified lifeguard and swim instructor, she enjoys meeting new people and working with kids. Neeharika has always been curious, optimistic and open-minded when tackling new projects. She believes that her role in the team is a perfect fit for her positive energy. Her dedication and hard work have always helped her reach her goals and she bring that same focus to her volunteer work. Since a young age, Neeharika has been interested in robotics and enjoys participating in STEM competitions. During her spare time, you will find her either watching Netflix or hanging out with friends.
Lachlan Brown

Lachlan Brown, He/Him, Halifax NS

Lachlan is from Halifax Nova Scotia. He is passionate about helping his community and working with youth. He is currently working for the Nova Scotia YWCA as a guys group facilitator. He has been involved in the team since 2019!
