Your Youth Engagement Starter Pack

June 25 (Thursday) 12pm PST/3pm EST

This workshop explores foundations of youth engagement and activities for all issues, groups of young people, and settings (digital, in-person). Walk away with a template for structuring new programs and re-energizing existing groups, and techniques for navigating challenging discussions and fostering inclusive participation.

Facilitator: Kaitlin Power (Skills Development Coordinator) who brings 10+ years sparking and sustaining engagement among diverse groups young people across educational, community, and virtual settings. Kaitlin is masterful at real-time adaptations of planned activities to meet emergent needs.

Research Design with Youth in Mind

July 30 (Thursday) 12pm PST/3pm EST

This workshop highlights best practices for gathering and mobilizing youth voices that align with your goals and performance measurement needs. Learn how to select and leverage research tools that best measure process and impact.

Facilitator: Vanessa Turchio (Lead, Research and Impact Measurement) helps to mobilize learnings harvested from SCC's national database of more than 19,000 youth voices from programs across Canada. She is passionate about youth-centered research and data science, and holds an MA in Developmental Psychology.

A former teacher, Erica Ngai is now a youth program evaluator and researcher committed to amplifying youth voices across Canada. She co-leads Research and Impact Measurement at the SCC and holds a master’s degree in Comparative and International Education from the University of Oxford.

Community Strategy Development

September 3 (Thursday) 12pm PST/3pm EST

For coalitions and communities at the drawing board or seeking to deepen community strategy! This workshop dives into creating a shared vision, centering youth voice and contribution, and generating adult buy-in.

Facilitator: Christa Romaldi (Associate Director, Program Development) has worked alongside numerous communities and organizational collaboratives to design and implement strategies, including youth engagement strategies, youth violence prevention strategies, and community building strategies that focus on youth wellbeing.

UPCOMING TORONTO WORKSHOP

Community Building and Culture Shifting

September 10 9am–5pm EST at our Toronto Youth Centre (23 Isabella Street)

This workshop series unpacks how to work with youth who have been marginalized, explores rewriting community narratives, and moving toward more inclusive and safe spaces. Workshops center around values-rooted programming and how community partnerships can change systems and communities.

This workshop costs $50 per person for a half day (9am-12pm or 1-5pm EST) or Whole Day ($75 per person)

Facilitator: Abdi Mohamud (Associate Director of Program Delivery and Culture) brings over 20 years of experience in critical youth work informed by Afrocentric values. He provides strategic and operational leadership for programs addressing root causes impacting communities, while advancing an organizational culture grounded in equity, care, and shared leadership.

Chantelle Edwards (Toronto Community Lead) runs virtual and in-person youth programming spans cultural curiosity, youth leadership development, and creating safer spaces where young people can find belonging and community. An integral part of her approach is building relationships and giving youth a space to feel heard, which opens doors to new perspectives and deeper understanding across diverse experiences.
